RURAL HALL - Mr. Robert "Bob" Edward Saunders, 88, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 30, 2006. He was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 18, 1917, to the late Robah E. Saunders and Mollie Everhart Saunders Bodford. Bob was a friend to everyone he met and was a member of Marshall Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was one of the founding members of the Rural Hall Fire Department and volunteered his time there from 1944 to 1977, when he retired. Bob also retired from Piedmont Airlines as a truck driver with many years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mosley Saunders, in 2002; and a brother, Thurmond E. Saunders Sr. Bob is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Kiger and husband Bill; two grandchildren, Eddie Horn and Wendy Coe; two stepgrandchildren, Dale and Jeff Kiger; three great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Faircloth and husband Frank and Ruby Clinard and husband Jack; a brother, John Bodford and wife Faye; a sister-in-law, Mary Saunders; several nieces and nephews; a caregiver, Janie Myers; and many other special friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 2, at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, with the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. It was Bob's wish to have no visitation, but friends may pay their respects at 4 p.m. today at the home of Bob's daughter, Carolyn Kiger, at 720 Irish Road in Rural Hall, after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or Rural Hall Fire Department, P.O. Box 550, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
