William James Taylor

Mr. William (Capt. "Bill") James Taylor, 88, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Lancaster, S.C., to Henry Robert and Mary Elizabeth Taylor. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a glider-pilot instructor. After the war, he was one of the first 10 pilots with Piedmont Airlines, where he retired with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Silver Eagles and a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; his parents; and his wife, Elizabeth Simpson Taylor. Surviving are his son, Gary Taylor, and wife Kay of Advance; a grandson, Mark Taylor, and wife Beth of Woodstock, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Taylor and Thomas Taylor. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, with the Rev. Nathan Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Voglers Reynolda Chapel.

I had the extreme honor and privilege to work with Capt Bill Taylor in the Dispatch office in Winston Salem N.C. His great leadership inspired many a Piedmont employee and helped to make us all proud of our Piedmont Airline heritage. Happy Landing Captain Bill!
