Piedmont Captain Charles Mitchell, Jr. passed away Friday night, Dec. 12, 2008 at 7:15 pm. Family and friends are invited to the Visitation at Coble Funeral Home on Oleander Drive in Wilmington, NC on Wednesday, December 17 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Rev. Paul Berry will conduct services at the Centerville Baptist Church in Kelly, NC at 10:30 am on Thursday December 18, 2008.

Following the Service, burial will be in the Family plot at Frenches Creek Cemetery.



KELLY, NC -- Captain Charles Gaston Mitchell Jr. was called home to Jesus on December 12, 2008 after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer's.

"Charlie", a native of Kelly, North Carolina retired in 1999 after more than 25 years of service with Piedmont Airlines / US Air. In addition to flying Boeing 757's, Charlie also served the Cape Fear region as a Federal Aviation Administration Pilot Examiner. Charlie also served in the Army for 4 years including a tour of duty in West Germany.

Charles Jr. is survived by his son Charles G. Mitchell III. Charlie has one Granddaughter and Grandson.

Charles' was the son of Charles G. Mitchell and Evelyn Hite Mitchell and one of seven children. He has 4 sisters Miriam, Martha, Marie, and Ginny. His brothers are Bob and Terry.

Visitation will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home on Oleander Dr. in Wilmington on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held the following day, Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Centerville Baptist Church in Kelly, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Frenches Creek Cemetery.
