The Piedmont family lost an old friend October 8th when Lacy Griffin, owner /operator of A and H Flying service at the AVL airport passed away. Not only did Lacy contribute to PAI s ventures in fuel problems at AVL but also furnished the flight training to numerous young men that later had successful careers as pilots for PAI. I beleive Bob Almon got his training from Lacy ,one of the early ones and then Tony Rankin,Andy Haynes and ? Haynes (Senior moment there and can remember a first name) were in the last group to emerge from the "Grand Wizards" hanger. Those that knew him well know all the grand stories of Moped rides and ashes blown back into the cockpit while trying to scatter them over Mt, Pisgah. Those that didnt missed a real early airline pioneer.Lacy has gone on but he has left a legacy in good pilots and fond memories. Cut two!
