Samuel C. Dillender
Winston-Salem Sep 25, 1930 - Jul 12, 2016 Mr. Samuel C. Dillender, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on July 12, 2016 at his home. Born September 25, 1930 in Knoxville, TN to the late Richard and Jennie Dillender.
He received his degree in accounting from the University of Georgia in 1955. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, reaching the rank of 1st lieutenant. In 1989 he retired from Piedmont Airlines. Beginning in 1957, Sam was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, serving faithfully as an elder and deacon and other positions. In addition to volunteering at Medical Park Hospital for 23 years, he also delivered Meals On Wheels. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and wood working. Sam was an avid fan of Georgia football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Newton Dillender and his stepson Spencer Thomas. In 1993 he married Frances Thomas-Dillender. Surviving with his wife are his son Samuel C. Dillender, Jr. (Holly); his daughter Terrie D. Hart (Brian); and grandchildren Glynis D. Muniz (Oscar); Savannah Dillender; 2nd Lt Dan Hart; and Mandi Hart; his stepchildren Nathan Thomas, JT Magellan (Yoko, deceased), Lynn Thomas Dugan (Paul); and grandchildren Seth Thomas (Rachel), Sara-Grace Thomas, Danielle Dugan Dull (Travis), Morgan Dugan, Anna-Elizabeth Dugan; his brother Richard Dillender (Barbara).
His memorial service will be Saturday July 16, 2016 at 11:00 at Highland Presbyterian Church officiated by Dr. Randy Harris and Rev. Debbie Layman. Following the service, the family will receive family and friends in the activity building at Highland Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to 2nd Harvest Food Bank, Meals On Wheels, or Hospice.The family expresses gratitude to the many friends and family members who supported Sam through his illness.
