I just discovered he passed away 16 May 2017.
Harold L. (Doc) Giles, age 88 of Alcoa, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
He was a member of Vonore Baptist Church, Vonore Masonic Lodge #658 and was a graduate of Vonore High School. He attended Hiwassee College, served in the United States Army and worked for Piedmont Airlines from 1958 to 1989 spending time at airports in Knoxville, Lewisburg W.VA., and Kinston, NC. He retired as Station Manager with US Air in 1989 soon after Piedmont merged with US Air.
He was preceded in death by wife, Helen Botts Giles; parents, Fred and Hazel Giles; stepson, Douglas K. Hobbs.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Susan Giles; grandson, Wesley Giles; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Giles; sister, Winnie Marie Davis; best friend, Gracie Curtis and the family of Mike and Susan Curtis. Doc had many, many special friends centered around Piedmont Airlines, Vonore Lodge 658 and Vonore Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and associates of Clinton Morning Pointe Senior Living and Caris Hospice Healthcare for their devotion in caring for Doc during the last months of his life. APN Director Susan Johnston and Morning Pointe Director Marcy Pennington provided invaluable leadership to this special team of caregivers.
The family will receive friends 11:00- 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville. The Masonic service and funeral will immediately follow. Rev. Jeremy Shaw will officiate. Family and friends will meet for the interment 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa.
