The following from Captains Tom Stanges and Tory Vaughn
I just received this. What a shock. I thought you would like to know.
Tory
Hi Tory........it has come to my great sorrow to have read in the Airline Pilot magazine that one of my most favorite captains; Russ Grass has passed away. Your son Tory, whom I've known for a couple of decades now has told me of your friendship and contact with Russ over the years since both of you have retired. I will be in CHS for the (PI Silver Eagles) reunion and it would be proper for Russ to be eulogized at the event. Russ was ALWAYS an enjoyment to be with whether it was in the cockpit or on a layover having some beverages and enjoying conversations. I miss him.
All the best......Captain Tom Stanges.
Tom,
Thank you so much for letting me know about Russell Grass. The last contact I had with him was a Christmas card from Alaska several years ago. We were neighbors in Wilmington as well as good friends, and he will be missed. We have often wondered where he was, and had thought about going to Key West to look for him, because we thought he might be there. He thought Ernest Hemingway was the greatest author ever, and always said he wanted to go to Sloppy Joes.
He was a good friend to me and my family. Thanks again for letting me know about him.
