Fred Avar Smith

MOCKSVILLE - Captain Fred Avar Smith, 58, of Mocksville died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, while flying Miss Rita, something that he loved. He was born Nov. 25, 1946, in Guilford County to William Warner and Ruby Osborne Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of Green Meadows Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was employed by Piedmont/US Airways for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Rita L. Smith; four children, Michael Todd Smith, Wendy Lynn Smith Wolfe, Christopher Lee Frye and Ashley Nicole Caudle; five grandchildren, Jacob "Jakester" Smith, Marley "Motorboat" Wolfe, Mila "Buster" Wolfe, Isaiah "Shadow" Frye and Hannah "Sweet-tater" Frye; two brothers, William Troy Smith and Danny Vaga Smith; and a sister, Ruby Marie Bosley. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Green Meadows Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Waters and Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with military rites by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 18, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Memorials may be made to Green Meadows Baptist Church Building Fund or the Missions Fund, 1646 NC Hwy. 801 N., Mocksville, NC 27028.
